Drabby to Fabby : Kitchen Edition
Wow! I can't believe I NEVER posted our fabulous Kitchen Renovation!!
This project has literally taken seven months to do. Not what we anticipated but painting the cabinets took way longer than what we wanted and between coats we had other projects going on. But with project was one that had so many bumps in the road for us and we had to try and figure out how to execute them effectively.
First we took out this unleveled in the way set of cabinets. There was no way of having comfortable seating at the dining table with having this cabinet there. Then we knocked out the hang alone cabinet above the dishwasher. It was bulky and I just didn't like it. hahaha. The previous owners ruined that cabinet anyways with drilling hooks on the bottom to hang coffee mugs so the bottom of the cabinet was not functional anyways. We replaced that cabinet with two floating shelves. They aren't hard wood so we don't have to many heavy items on them because I don't want them to come down crashing and breaking.
After removing those cabinets we removed the awful carpet out of the dining room and came to find out the kitchen and dining room were not leveled at all. So we had to put more money in to some how level the flooring before we put the flooring down. And to be completely honest us trying to level it didn't really work because the flooring swoops down. We plan replace the flooring and carpet in the living room to all wood planks so we will have to figure out how to level it all out so we don't run into any problems. While the chaos of the flooring was getting put down, I was working on the Cabinets. I started by wiping them down with TSP. Then I sanded them down and wiped them down again. I primed them with Behr cabinet paint and did two layers. After both primed layers were dry, I painted three coats of Behr High Gloss paint in Polar Bear White. Adding the handles was a little stressful only because we didn't have previous pull holes to help guide us. So it was done all by eyeballing. The only thing we had to do to the pantry was add doors. We opted to do normal closet doors because of space in the kitchen. Come Spring the closet doors will be coming down and getting a fresh coat of the Polar Bear paint so the doors can pop as well. The whole house needs new trim so we have taken all the trim down and will start replacing that or hire someone to replace it because it is ALOT of trim. But we will see which path we take when we get there. Amazon has been our friend when it comes to remodeling because things can be cheaper like the kitchen faucet. Majority of our lights are from Lowes and I couldn't be more happier! But this is one project i can gladly say I'm done with!!
